Meet the Staff

Nancy Bartosek

Director of Editorial Services
Editor of The TCU Magazine

Director since 2001, Nancy is responsible for producing the quarterly, 80-page The TCU Magazine and is editor of Endeavors, the research magazine published by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research. She serves as a member of the management team for Marketing & Communication where she assists with the creation of university print, radio and broadcast marketing, branding and advertising. She has helped plan marketing campaigns and produce award-winning print materials for admission, graduate studies, study abroad and other departments and offices across campus. In addition to chairing the TCU Editorial Priorities Committee, Nancy has served as co-chair of the CASE Publications Professionals conference and as a speaker for the CASE Editor’s Forum.

A 1996 communications graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, Nancy began her journalism career at UTA’s student paper, where she was a lead investigative reporter on the team that earned the Freedom of Information Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Nancy was the higher education reporter at the Arlington Star-Telegram for a year before joining TCU in 1997 as Assistant Director of Editorial Services. Nancy has written stories from Wyoming, California, Belize and Romania.

Rick Waters

Assistant Director of Editorial Services
Assistant Editor of The TCU Magazine

Rick writes and conceptualizes advertising projects for print and web, radio and television spots, advertising campaigns, brochures, annual reports, and sales pieces. Campus clients have included Office of Admission, Athletics, Schieffer School of Journalism, and College of Science & Engineering. He also helps write and edit The TCU Magazine and its Web site.

He has won five individual CASE writing awards for magazine news and feature stories and five writing collection awards with editor Nancy Bartosek and staff writers. He's also collaborated on the award-winning "You're a Horned Frog" athletics campaign and won a CASE gold for the "It's Frog Football, Y'all" radio commercials.

Rick has a background in newspaper reporting, news design and copy editing. Prior to joining TCU in 2001, he was a writer and assistant city editor at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Corpus Christi Caller-Times and Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. He also was Marketing Publications Editor at Fort Worth architecture firm Carter & Burgess. A 1995 graduate of TCU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism/News Editorial, Rick was a former editor of the TCU Daily Skiff and Image magazine.

Kathryn Hopper


Staff Writer, The TCU Magazine

As a staff writer for The TCU Magazine, Kathryn provides content for the magazine, the magazine website and other publications. She’s a 1986 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts in English and minor in journalism. In 1991, she earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Duke University, where her coursework included American history and Documentary Studies.

Her journalism career includes stints at The Raleigh News & Observer, Greensboro News & Record and Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where she landed the sports business beat and won a specialty reporting award from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. Her work has also appeared in The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine and Family Fun Magazine. In 2006, she helped MTV Networks launch the parenting website parentsconnect.com. She’s the author of Family Fun Vacation Guide: Southwest for Disney Publications and co-author of Fort Worth: Where the Best Begins. She and her husband, Stuart, live in Southlake with their four sons.
